You know, politics in America really isn't THAT bad.

"A TV ad for Mugabe's Zanu-PF party in the run-up to the 1990 parliamentary elections featured the sounds of a car accident followed by a voiceover that intoned: "This is one way to die. Another is to vote [then opposition party] Z.U.M." In 2005, Mugabe ordered the security services to level whole districts in towns across the country, depriving 700,000 people of their homes or livelihoods out of fear that urban support for a new party, the Movement for Democratic Change (M.D.C.), would foment rebellion."

Back to the books. Recent highlights: Melissa's wedding, hanging out with the fam, seeing a wild goat, communing with the elk (Tuesday mental health trip to the mountains), Ezra the cutest baby ever (!!!), how bologna is made, how to feed ferrets, Brucella is bad, Herpes is bad, ears are AWESOME, there is a lot of sulpher in Argentina and I will NEVER learn how to spell sulfer, Mrs. Moses is a great little chicken and so is Pheasant, and "suffering" is the state of emotional distress associated with events that threaten an organism or thwart it in meeting its basic needs. Max does not have heartworms. I would like to work for the USDA. Strokes are bad even though clots are good. The mules like tea.

I believe it was rectal palpation attempt 6-7 when I was leaning on my cow, left arm in up to the shoulder, too tired to feel around for the cervix amongst the mush but hoping to make another try with a 20 second break, right arm leaning on the cow on the right, chin on my cow, staring down the cow line at 50 more cows with students involved in various states of usefulness, noting that I was actually covered in dairy cow feces from head to toe on the left side and using the clean-looking spot on my right forearm to wipe my stuffed up nose, when the cow on the right projected another steady-stream of the semi-solid green slop called normal dairy cow feces at about the same time my own cow decided to send some more squishing out around my arm, and I began to laugh in absolute joy and contentment. Somewhere people are fighting about religion, somewhere people are worrying about politics, somewhere people are excited about getting married, somewhere people are making really important decisions, somewhere people are taking the day off... but I, Janel, am completely happy covered in cow dung. Go figure! To top it off, somewhere near the last cow in barn number 3 I finally recognized the ovaries.
